How to Air Fry Plantains

My husband and I were recently gifted with some beautiful plantains. Like, a lot of plantains. It had been a while since I had eaten plantain, so I got to work looking up some recipes to help me decide how best to use all of these wonderful fruits.
One of the dishes I kept on running into was fried plantain. My mom made these a couple of times for my sister and I when we were young and I remembered them being delicious. The hubby also purchased a Ninja Foodie several months ago. Boom! Air fried plantains it was! We decided on a sweet and savory version.
Here is what you will need:
- Plantains (at least a couple of large ones)
- Air fryer
- Oil (we used macadamia nut oil)
- Spices (use whatever you are feeling)
- Knife
- Cutting board
- Mixing bowl
- Tongs
Alrighty! First things first. Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees. Then, tackle your plantains.
Start by cutting the ends off of your plantains. The peel of a plantain is typically a bit thicker than that of a banana.
Then either slice or peel down one end to remove peel.
Next, slice your plantain into evenly thick rounds.
Place plantain rounds in a mixing bowl and toss with a tablespoon or so of oil.
Place coated rounds in a single layer in air fryer. Allow to cook for 10-15 minutes, then shake or flip to ensure that they are evenly done on both sides. Cook for an additional 5-10 minutes until the rounds are golden and brown (not black or they will be bitter and dry).
Carefully remove plantain rounds from air fryer and place in clean mixing bowl. Toss with spices to your taste! We used rosemary garlic salt and fresh ground pepper for ours and they were wonderful!
Allow them to cool slightly and enjoy! The rounds will be soft and chewy and are a delightful treat.
